Reflection #4
My Creative Process with Concert Photography
For as long as I can remember I’ve had such an inkling towards photography, I have just always been drawn to it. The aspects of it all have always been so interesting to me. So, that is why I would like to reflect on my experiences with photography at concerts.
Concert photography has always been a dream, over the years I’ve seen countless amounts of pictures from different photographers capturing special moments at the concerts and it has always been such a thrilling career to me. My recent experiences with starting out as a concert photographer have been so fulfilling. It’s amazing to see my progress of slowly making my way and figuring it out as I go but also getting to live out this dream I’ve had for years. I just love the way I get to capture the energy of an artist performing in my own special way while also getting to enjoy the live music itself. Especially, having the experiences as a photographer and growing, figuring out my artistic style while releasing my creative expression.
The creative process of shooting is also such a fulfilling element of photography. The way I prepare is by doing my research before a show. This research includes looking up the artist, the venues and the songs the artist plays. I usually like to research the venue just to make sure how big it is which will affect how spread out the artist will move which might make shooting a bit more challenging. Also, researching the venue to figure out if they usually have a good lighting setup, some venues can either have too bright of lighting or they wash the artist out in the lights and that can also potentially make shooting more difficult. Another aspect of my process includes preparing the settings on my camera before the show. This includes setting up the shutter speed, ISO settings and composition to make sure everything is in order for the show. Usually, I will adjust the settings as the show is going on to just adhere to when the lighting changes or whatever obstacles I need to adjust the settings to. After the show I then edit using the app lightroom and make a good shot even better.
There are so many aspects of concert photography that have been so exciting. The whole experience of looking forward to a show, shooting it and then editing them all after is just such a rewarding experience. In the future I just hope to grow as a photographer and get to be involved in more of these exciting experiences.
